Women with obesity may suffer from reproductive health problems such as infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and irregular or painful menstruation. Weight-loss surgery at our Chicago practice can improve some of the reproductive health conditions that are related to obesity. In fact, studies of women who underwent bariatric surgery showed that their menstrual cycles returned to normal three months after surgery.

I found out about 2 years ago that I have endometriosis. 3 months after finding out, I was referred to an infertility specialist who diagnosed me with PCOS also. The specialist wanted to do surgery to either try to clear the tubes or to remove them if they were in bad shape. I had the surgery and was scheduled for an xray dye test a month later. He did not remove my tubes, but said that one was open and the other was possibly blocked still. He wanted the dye test done to see if I had a blockage closer to the uterus which would entail a more difficult surgery. When I went in for the xray dye test, he showed up an hour late, asked me why I was there, who did my surgery and was anybody else there. He did the test and within 5 seconds said to have my tubes removed. I was very upset. I went back to my obgyn and he said he would contact someone else for me. He called me a week later and said the three of them decided I should remove my tubes. I haven't made a decision yet, what should I do?
Having surgery of any type is something you should make sure is absolutely necessary before doing. I agree, get a second and even third qualified opinion. I however believe that if your main problem is just that you can not conceive, then leave your tubes in tact. Only have them removed if it is of a health issue. When the time comes that you decide you want children, there are so many other options available to you, so don't let that be a concern right now. Your health is the most important issue. Good Luck and God Bless
PCOS affects women of every age. You probably know someone who has this syndrome. It affects daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, nieces, grandaughters, friends, lovers, wives.

I am due to go in for a laparoscopy for my infertility on July 2nd. The doctors can't find any reason why I am not getting pregnant, so they want to check for endometriosis and remove any they see. He told me there is a 4-5 day recovery. I would love to hear from some ladies who have had this procedure done. Did it have any beneficial effects towards conception? Was it really painful? Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had a laparoscopy in April this year. It is not particularly painful. Basically they go into the abdomen through some tiny incisions in your navel and just above the bikini line. They then extend your abdomen with gas, so that they can see what they are doing. The doc will then insert his hi-tech tools and do what he needs to do. If there is endometriosis, they can remove it (this is what happened to me).
Afterwards, the only major discomfort is from the gas that they use to extend your abdomen - it may cause you shoulder pain. Otherwise, the incisions are closed with 1 stitch each. You may experience mild discomfort (like light period pains) in your lower abdomen. After a day or two, you will be up and about again.
It takes a while for your period to resume (mine took 10 weeks!) but thereafter you will be ready to ttc again.
